"Urban Mining. Design, Dismantle, Disseminate" is the theme of the exhibit by Mario Cucinella Architects for Solferino28, Corriere della Sera during Milan Design Week 2024. This installation delves into the theme of the future city from a regenerative perspective, wherein human-made spaces are not perceived as detracting from nature, but rather draw inspiration from it, seeking self-regeneration. Urban Mining is conceived as a process aimed at reclaiming and managing the "anthropogenic heritage" (materials extracted and transformed into infrastructures, buildings, and everyday items), with the goal of rejuvenating matter and reutilizing it.
The courtyard of the historic Corriere della Sera headquarters at Solferino 28 is redesigned, starting from a simple, humble, and “everyday” object: the vegetable crate. It serves as the building block for the Urban Mining, an urban backdrop that can be assembled and disassembled, illustrating a novel approach to urban construction and design.

Il cortile della sede storica del Corriere della Sera in Solferino 28 viene ridisegnato partendo da un oggetto semplice, povero e di uso “quotidiano”: la cassa della raccolta degli ortaggi. Questa rappresenta il modulo che assemblato dà vita alla Città Miniera; una quinta urbana, smontabile e riassemblabile, che racconta un nuovo modo di costruire e di progettare le nostre città e le nostre vite.

L’installazione Città Miniera. Design, Dismantle, Disseminate, diventa l’occasione per parlare alla design week di circolarità e modelli di sviluppo virtuosi non solo in un’ottica di “ridurre, riusare, riciclare”, ma anche per porre l’attenzione sul modo con cui si progetta.
In questa visione i prodotti e gli edifici vengono ideati affinché possano smembrarsi e autorigenerarsi secondo la ciclicità della natura.
