Re-Use With Love

The property is owned by the Municipality of Bologna. It will become the headquarters for the not-for-profit association Re-Use With Love, which won the redevelopment grant.

The purpose is to transform the building and make it the hub for the social and cultural activities of the Association, which is dedicated to charitable activities and supports socially beneficial projects. This will be achieved by collecting used clothing and creating artisan-made products from recycled materials.

The project addresses the need for restoration and conservative maintenance works to refurbish the former ENEL transformer building, along with other internal and external works so that it can be used for cultural, recreational, and promotional activities for the city.

In architectural and structural terms, the basement under the main building will be modified; a new mezzanine level will connect to the floor below it via an internal steel staircase.

As part of the design of the outdoor spaces surrounding the building, a wooden platform will be created, with a ramp that provides a new entrance to the building and will also serve as a permanent feature accessible to all. This will revitalise a currently marginal area of the city where there is no lighting, making it into a place for socialising within the park.

Access to this new nucleus will be via a new paved pedestrian pathway, which connects to the public footpath on Viale Stenio Polischi, which is within the Giardini Margherita Park.

The environmental strategies have been handled with particular care by introducing measures that will reduce energy consumption, for example by improving the efficiency of the building enclosure and opening up large, glazed surfaces to ensure proper natural light and ventilation.
